Meet Julie-Anne Williams (Julz)
“My arrival at UFT was one of those amazing coincidences. A sign on the side of the road and a ‘just do it’ moment.”
“I started with some P. T’s and then joined the boot camp. I hyperventilated all the way to my first class but my initial interactions with the trainers at UFT gave me the feeling that this was the right place for me. Relaxed, friendly, knowledgeable and keen to help me find my groove again. Within a few short weeks I was accomplishing far more than i’d anticipated and I was excited to get to every class.”
“It was obvious to me already that UFT was different to any other gym id been in, it wasn’t just a gym, it’s hard to describe without it sounding corny but the truth is that UFT fast became a home away from home.”
“I did boot camp classes for about 9 months before braving the transition to CrossFit.”
“We’ve all heard the rumours. Cross fitters are crazy, competitive people who do ridiculous things and get injured all the time. Well, not at UFT. The crazy is all the good kind, the competitive nature of those who train here is about improvement and healthy mindsets, there are those who compete and those who train for fun all working together, we motivate each other, we praise and cheer for others successes and totally excuse the odd lazy day.”
“I personally train primarily for my mental health, it’s amazing for stress and it keeps me grounded. However, what I also get at UFT that I never got at any other facility is a love for what I do there. I was never into weight lifting mostly because it scared me but I soon found myself loving every element of training. It’s hard not to when you walk into a place that makes training fun while managing to make you stronger than you ever thought possible. I hate sprints, I doubt this will ever change, they are simply not my thing but somehow even after a WOD that includes sprints I find myself collapsed on the floor having a laugh, feeling amazing and thanking my trainer for nearly killing me.”
“I never for a moment expected that an impulsive decision to enquire about a sign would after 2 and a half years have payed off in so many ways. UFT is one of my favourite places and is full of so many of my favourite people. We train hard, some days crazy hard with trainers who know my body (sometimes I think better than me) who push you past ‘I can’t do that’ to ‘Wow, look at me doing that!’.” I was not fit, or strong when I started but I sure I am now. If you are the sort of person who enjoys great people as much as a great workout, you pretty much can’t go past UFT.”
