There are 3 “RULES” that have always been an unwritten, unspoken, and always practiced law within our PLAYgrounds.
And only recently have they become a topic of conversation and something that we really want to show off and be proud of.
A PLAYground is a place that everyone, no matter their level, gender, age, appearance or ability feels welcomed, embraced and loved.
A place where we build people up and challenge them at the same time.
A place to PLAY, to train, to laugh and to grow.
So every time you step into the PLAYground remember to follow these 3 simple rules:
1. Positivity or Burpees
2. Always, Always, Always build up your teammates
3. Technique protects us from injury. Intensity gets results.
They are simple concepts and for most of us, we would consider them a very commonsense practice (maybe without the burpees). They can however, be overlooked and if left unchecked can really reduce the experience you have when you train.
We have these rules in place because we believe that this is how every person should act, feel and be treated whenever they walk into any environment.
Could you imagine someone saying something negative at work and having to drop down for 10 burpees??? That’s a place I’d like to work at (and I do).
What makes these so important?
Let’s have a look:
Positivity or burpees – It’s a simple and very effective disciplinary act. Not in the sense of punishment, but in the form of self accountability and self discipline. You rock up to training for a varied number of reasons, the one at the top of your list is because it makes you feel great! Now imagine, every time you walked into the gym, it was acceptable for you to make negative comments about yourself, your training or other people? It’s not an environment that I would walk away from feeling great. And we know that self discipline is one of the most important parts of making any sort of significant change. So if you catch yourself thinking, speaking or acting in a negative way when you’re in the PLAYground (or at home or work for that matter), drop down and pump out 10 burpees to keep yourself in check and watch how your mind changes.
Always, Always, Always build up your teammates – Again, very simple and extremely effective. We are a community, a team, a family. Everyone has amazing days and horrible days and what is a family, a PLAYground and training for? It’s for picking you up and making you feel better. how awesome do you feel when you’re having a great day, you rock up to class and everyone lifts you up another 10%, what freaking great day you’re going to have. And then, what if you’re having “one of those days”, where you don’t want to talk to people, you hate the world because it feels like it hates you and you just need to get your frustration out with a good, solid training session. How much does it help when you get a little tap on the bum and “great job” from a trainer, a teammate or a family member? Now reverse that? What if you had a “one of those days” type day and the person next to you, holding pads for you or running behind you was negative Nancy the whole time? Don’t be that person, don’t be Nancy. Be the person that makes everyone else feel great when they leave. Because that’s why we’re all here, to feel GREAT!
Technique protects us from injury. Intensity gets results – This is the golden rule of training. Use your “professor” brain to learn, increase your movement and reduce your pain/prevent injury and use your “monkey” brain to go hell for leather with no rational thought in your mind so that you can achieve everything you want. So remember this simple rule. If you want to get better and you want to move better and you don’t want to hurt yourself, then slow down and learn, move well and move a little bit better in every single session. AND not or. AND if you want to get fitter, faster, stronger, leaner, meaner, machiner, then you’ve got to work hard. Push your body and your mind to places you hate and to places you avoid, see a challenge and face it head on, break down the walls of reason and just give it everything you’ve got, then find more and give that as well. Because that’s when you’ll find what you’re truly capable of. If you’re too much of one, you won’t get better or you will get hurt.
So how do you put these into practice every day? Rock up to class early, get your body moving well, be positive, build up the people around you, no matter how good or bad a day you’re having and find a balance that works for you between technique and intensity.
Our coaches and staff will help you, that’s our job. You’re not alone here, we’re there for you and everyone, every step of the way.
See you at the PLAYground
and of course
ENJOY YOUR DAY & PLAY 😀
