What is HEALTH to you?
I am intrigued to know what your thoughts are…
For a lot of people, health is going to the gym 3-4 times a week, for others it is not being ill or sick.
A lot say they eat well and that is health.
A man that has suffered from depression will say that he is healthy now, because at that point in time, he no longer is suffering from the black dog.
People put out there that there is physical health, mental health, oral health, social health…
The list can go on, can’t it?
I mean, we could look at every aspect of what you do and say that is health.
What is health though?
I have found probably my favourite definition of health from the world health organisation…
The World Health Organisation states that – Health is a “State of complete physical, mental, and social well being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
This is more believable than the dictionaries definition of – “the state of being free from illness or injury”, however, neither really sync up with my values and beliefs at all.
So, if we do not have a good definition of health at all, where do we stand on what health truly is?
With so many aspects of health, we have to look at it on a subjective (individual) level.
Health as a whole might be measured by our living standards, it may be measured even by the average lifespan of a country.
However, if you want to reach your own epitome of health, then you have to ask yourself,
What do you want from life itself.
Because there are people out there who are not healthy due to socio-economic status, or due to lack of education and knowledge. So many people are not healthy due to the abundance of information and how that has left them confused and seeking an answer… “What is correct?”
Here’s a few tips to help you decide what health means to you:
If you do want to understand what health is, you have to look at a few key areas of your life…
– Physical health (This is your body only)
– Social (This is the connection with other people)
– Family (Connection with family)
– Education (Growth for your mental health)
– Career (Having a purpose is super important, how do you contribute?)
– Financial (Having wealth greatly increases your health and mindset)
– Spirituality (This is the intimacy you have with yourself, nature, your partner and really honing in on wellness, probably the most important of all)
Once you take these key areas of your life, I would suggest that you work out what each of these look like to you…
Are you where you want to be with those areas in your life?
If not, then you need to work out how you can get from where you are now to where you want to be in these key areas…
